Homework Week 2

Homework Week 2: Flipped Teaching and 21st Century Learning

Watch:  Flipped Classroom Why do it?  (3:27)

Theme:  Technology for learning.... where does it fit, how does Bloom's taxonomy fit in?
Let's expand our thinking by watching a few videos and reading some posts.   

All this is due on Thursday by 5 pm (9/10/15).  Blog Posts 3 & 4 (will be your evidence)
and Step 1 will be the reading/watching

1.  Read/Watch EVERY link below.  (it's  about 30 minutes of video).

2.  After watching create a blog post entitled:  Learning with Technology
 In that post:   Share your observations/understanding/connections.  
Which of the videos or posts really resonated with you? 
Here are some ideas, you can do a paragraph (or two) for each question (or come up with your own themes). 

  • what statements seemed logical? tainted? realistic? critical?  
  • re-watch one video that you wondered about, and share three observations, questions, or concepts from it.  
  • Think and write a paragraph about how Blooms Taxonomy connects with these educational philosophy videos.  
  • Do you see these questions, philosophies, or concepts fitting into your biblical worldview? why or why not?
Grading Look fors:
  • shares facts or concepts from at least 3 sources. 
  • discusses one video in depth.  
  • One or more paragraphs explains how Blooms Taxonomoy of thinking connects to education.  
  • Where do these educational philosophies fit with your biblical worldview?  why/how?  
  
3.  Write a 2nd post:  Title: Blooms: What I think and What I wonder (about learning and teaching with all this knowledge of Blooms, PBL, engagement, flipped classroom), .... and what questions do you have.    If you have time, google a question, and share a result, or share something that you think I should know about!

Grading look fors:   what do you think, what wonders, concerns, questions do you have?

THEN:  turn to your neighbors and start talking about the themes about teaching/learning in the Mastery Learning, Engaged Learning and PBL articles linked to last week's class.  Make a list of important and salient points on the chart paper provided.

Learning Targets:

  • The students will discuss learning theory in small groups and report key concepts from the assigned reading.  
  • The students will start thinking/analyzing how to choose good online resources/content.
  • The students will create/enhance a blog using blogger.com.  
Homework target:
  • The students will continue to think about how we teach by reviewing bloom's taxonomy content in their preferred learning style (videos and reading as options) see the assignment post.

  • Get to know you
    • create a prezi, powtoon, or 
      • el ed: make your Children's Lit About Me an online version in a tool you've always wanted to try.  
    • include details like:
      • why do you want to be a teacher
      • how do you learn (learning styles, times of day, formats)
      • your testimony
      • your family/important people
      • your strengths & passions
    • create a blogspot blog and post your get to know you there.
    • email Mrs.Poling the link to your blog post.

In this class, we are about learning new tools, strategies, and resources for learning. 
When you find a new tool, you should be able to answer the question how can I use this as a teacher?

Please email a link to Mrs. Poling (of a draft) by 12:30 pm Monday.

Happy Fall!

Congrats on another year at Emmaus. I look forward to leading your learning in this course.  Please be upfront with any questions, concerns, or special needs that you have. I am here to serve you.   I want to help you learn, grow, and train as a young professional educator.  So take time to get to know me, and feel comfortable in this course.


The Start...
Here we will meet online.... you will find assignments, links, questions, and other resources 
for our Digital Teaching and Learning 2015 course.   Please follow this blog so that you don't miss anything!

If you do not have a gmail account, today is the day to set one up!  It will make your life much easier.  
 Your elearn.emmaus.edu is also a gmail account.
But some students do not want all their course work on their school account. So you may want your blog to be on a 
gmail account. 

Learning Targets: (some just for today, some layered across the semester)

  • The students will think about and share (with peers and Mrs. P) their expectations, 
  • The students will process questions, and hopes for learning in this semester's Educational Technology Course. 
    • this will be accomplished by voting on plicker, class discussion and online posting. 
  • The students will meet Mrs. Poling, lead learner, and grasp her philosophy, 
  • will hear some of her expectations, and hopes for this semester together.  
    • this will be accomplished by her own intro, a Mrs. Poling Prezi and a  Powtoon
    • Syllabus review
    • discussing learning theory and how you like to learn (and reading) 
  • The students will desire to grow, learn, and master new skills this semester 
  • The student will stretch their personal learning inside and outside the classroom.  
    • this will be accomplished by goal setting, reporting, and reflections.  
    • accurate self assessment and reflection 
    • Effort, work, and discipline in research, reflection, synthesis, and evaluation. 
    • time in the 21st century world with gadgets, tools, apps, and experimentation.
